Mr. Steve P. Martin began his Federal career in 1975 at the Grand Canyon National Park. Since April 2005, he has served as the Deputy Director of the National Park Service. Prior to that he was the Regional Director for the Intermountain Region, as post he held for two years. Mr. Martin has also served as Superintendent of Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Memorial Parkway; Superintendent of Denali National Park and Preserve; and Superintendent of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. Before moving to Alaska, he served as Chief of Concessions Management in Yellowstone National Park. He also served as Chief of Resource Management and Visitor Protection at Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota. Prior to the Voyageurs post, he held positions at Yellowstone National Park as the North District Ranger and Old Faithful District Ranger.
In 1975 he earned a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from the University of Arizona. During his NPS career, Steve has received many awards for supervisory and management accomplishments. He recently earned the Meritorious Service Award, the Department of the Interior’s second highest departmental honor.
