2009 Ridgway Reservoir CAST For Kids Event
A Perspective on the Day - By Justyn Hock, Western Colorado Area Office
On Tuesday, September 15 the Western Colorado Area Office held a CAST for Kids fishing event at Ridgway Reservoir in Ridgway, Colo. In the morning we had about 40 excited kids from area schools arrive in vans and busses ready to learn how to fish. We had plenty of adults (volunteers from Colorado State Parks, Division of Wildlife, and Friends of Ridgway State Park) on hand to teach the kids how to cast the fishing poles and reel them in. It didn’t take long for the kids to start catching fish. We estimate that 40 to 50 fish were caught from the Ridgway fishing ponds.
After fishing we had a pizza lunch provided by Friends of Ridgway State Park. The kids had really worked up an appetite! After lunch we had an awards ceremony and gave volunteers a nice great t-shirt and all the kids a plaque, t-shirt, and goodie bag. The kids all had a lot of fun and have great memories.
