2009 Lake Powell CAST For Kids Event

The Lake Powell CAST for Kids event took place on October 3, 2009. It was an awesome day – not too cold, but not too hot! The most important weather factor was that the wind did NOT blow. The water was calm and the scenery magnificent. We had about 37 kids participate in our event along with about 70 volunteers. As usual, the local businesses in Page really stepped up and supported our event. I didn’t believe other CAST organizers when they said that after a couple of years, it becomes easier and the event kind of takes care of itself, but it’s true. Every year it gets easier to organize as support within the community grows. We put the Regional Director and his lovely wife, Jo, to work. They didn’t waste any time jumping in and serving up the grub! They also accompanied the media boat out on the Lake to see the kids fishing first hand. I don’t think anyone left without a full belly and their spirits riding high. We had tons of fun. The employees here at Glen Canyon as well as those from the National Park Service really did a wonderful job. Without their help and support, this event would not be successful! Thanks to all of them for their hard work and effort. And thanks to the local community volunteers who come out every year to help. The hard work really pays off when you see the smiles on those kid’s faces. This year there were lots of fish to catch. Not too many kids went home without fish for dinner.
