The Bureau of Reclamation’s inventory includes 348 reservoirs throughout the seventeen western United States. Seaplane pilots have used some Reclamation reservoirs for landings and takeoffs in the past.

On September 24, 2008, Reclamation published amendments to 43 CFR Part 423, Public Conduct on Bureau of Reclamation Facilities, Lands, and Waterbodies, in the Federal Register as an interim final rule.  Among other revisions to Part 423, these amendments alter the language of section 423.41 to clarify that aircraft activity on Reclamation lands and waterbodies is governed by applicable Federal, State, and local law, and by any rules established in special use areas.

The interim final rule took effect immediately upon its publication on September 24, 2008, but public comments are invited.  The public comment period closes on November 24, 2008, after which comments will be considered and a final rule will be issued.
