The Department of
the Interior hosted an Lower Klamath Basin Science Conference, June 7-10,
2004, in Arcata, California, at Humboldt State University. The workshop
began at 8:00 am on Monday, June 7, and concluded at noon on Thursday,
June 10, 2004.
The purpose of the Conference was to initiate a dialogue between resource
management and scientific communities, including tribal authorities, academia,
and other stakeholders about present and future information needs and
their priority in the Basin. The physical connections and ecological linkages
between upper and lower basins, including the Trinity River, were key
themes. Conference goals focused on anadromous fishes and instream flow
needs.
Presentations and discussions related to the workshop themes (see Agenda (121K pdf file)). The first day of the workshop was primarily devoted to hearing
from selected water resource managers and stakeholders in the basin as
to their science and monitoring needs. The second and third days were
devoted to hearing the perspective of scientists as to what is known about
certain relevant topics and what they believe needs to be known to help
decisionmakers.
Attendance at the workshop was encouraged for scientific researchers,
water resource managers and stakeholders in the Klamath Basin especially
those involved in Lower Basin research and management.
