Aquatic/Riparian Invasive Species Research and Outreach Workshop: July 25-26, 2002

Results:

Who?

Reclamation managers, partners, stakeholders, and other involved organizations and agencies

Why?
Many aquatic and riparian invasive species are increasing costs and harming Reclamation facilities' operations and water and power deliveries. This workshop will help Reclamation managers, stakeholders, and other involved organizations and agencies understand:

• The major issues that these invasive species pose for Reclamation

• How the Science and Technology program can provide opportunities to address those issues.

What?
The workshop will:

• Be a forum to share information about invasive species across Reclamation and state-of-the-art technology derived from Reclamation's Science and Technology Invasive Species Research Program

• Cover policies, directives, executive orders, court rulings, and Interior and interagency activities relating to invasive species management and integrated pest management (IPM), and new tools and options with which to address invasive species issues

• Summarize the investments Reclamation and other agencies are making to address invasive species issues that will help optimize and ensure western water supplies, thereby supporting a strong economy

• Provide opportunities for attendees to interact with Reclamation researchers and identify future research activities

• Feature a keynote from Jim Tate, Science Advisor to the Secretary of Interior, Gale Norton--see the whole agenda.
