Science & Technology

We focus on innovative solutions for water and power challenges in the Western United States for Reclamation water and facility managers and the stakeholders they serve. The program has contributed many of the tools and capabilities Reclamation and western water managers use today.

Reclamation employees are the principal investigators eligible to submit S&T proposals and receive proposal awards. Research Jams help determine needed research and an annual call for proposals allows Reclamation researchers to propose research. Effective partnerships are a primary S&T proposal award consideration. We emphasize efficiency and effectiveness through collaborative research and development with our partners, including:

Collaborative research and development projects achieve cost-share from project partners through in-kind services and/or direct funding contributions. We also fund technology transfer, collaboration, workshops, and other outreach efforts to help ensure our innovative solutions reach Reclamation managers; other Federal, state, local, tribal, and non-governmental entities, and the public. We fund over 100 research projects each fiscal year.

Research is conducted under the Reclamation Act of 1902 (PDF, 5.6 MB) and the Reclamation Project Act of 1939 (PDF, 2.7 MB).
