Ancillary Improvements

Ancillary Improvements is a category of research called for in the Desalination Act of 1996. It includes economic studies, high pressure pump research, energy recovery devices, control and monitoring systems, and other parts of the desalination process not directly involved with the separation. Research topics include:

Development of the Water Treatment Cost Estimation Routine, and its conversion to visual basic, as well as the addition of thermal process cost estimates
Energy analysis of desalination processes of all types
Energy efficiency improvements
Desalination with alternative energy sources
Development of membrane characterization methods
Membrane foulant characterization
Development of sensors, analytical processes, testing protocols
Intake systems
Fate and transport models
