Projects or studies have been run in more than half of the 50 states, as shown by the map and tables below.

Geographical Distribution of Agreements Awarded
One of the benefits of cost-sharing is that the applicant must really believe in, and champion, his or her own idea. DWPR requires at least 50 percent of the cost of a project. To allow students to receive training in water treatment concepts at the university level, Reclamation can waive the cost share requirement for research up to a total of $1 million per year with institutions of higher learning. Table 1. Cost Share, shows the funding from Reclamation and the cost share participants from fiscal year (FY) 1998 -2011. Table 2 lists the agreements by state.
