Section 1203 — Basin Conservation Plan for the Yakima River Basin Water Conservation Program

Title XII of the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Water Rights Settlement Act, PL 103-434, Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Project of October 31, 1994, required the Yakima River Basin Conservation Advisory Group (CAG) to submit a draft basin conservation plan to the Secretary of the Interior. 

On August 12, 1997 the draft Basin Conservation Plan was released for public review by the Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation. The public review period extended through October 31, 1997. Several comments were received during the review period, discussed by CAG and a response addressing the comments was sent to each commenter. The draft plan was revised to include many of the comments and suggestions. 

CAG sent the draft Basin Conservation Plan to the Secretary on April 14, 1998 through the Commissioner. The Secretary directed the Commissioner to publish the Basin Conservation Plan on October 14, 1999. 

The Yakima River Basin Water Conservation Plan is an excellent document for providing overall guidance for the implementation of water conservation efforts in the basin.
