Boat Collection:
Sites collected with the use of a single beam echo sounder (Innerspace model 455 XPe) tied to a survey quality Trimble GPS. The GPS is tied to a high order survey marker or it's location was surveyed from a high order survey marker in order to allow radio communication when collecting depths. The echo sounder captured a recording every 50 ms and the RTK GPS captured a recording every second. The echo sounder was physically fixed to the side of a sixteen foot jet boat and GPS antenna pole.
Non-Boat Collection: Surveyors waded in main river, backwater channels and traversed stream banks and flood plains with a backpack RTK-GPS receiver and antenna mounted to a range pole. Rover shots made by spaced cross section lines through features such as riffles, shallow areas, gravel bars, islands between channels, or across small side channels. Many cross sections did not cross the entire feature because of limited GPS coverage or the water became too deep or rapid to wade. Particular attention was made at the head or tail of riffles or the head and mouth of side channels that were often characterized by complicated flow patterns. In these areas, the regular cross section pattern may be difficult to trace because mass points were taken to try and capture as much of the geometry as possible.
The Zillah to Granger reach was collected from 05/21/04 through 05/15/04 and the Selah Gap to Union Gap reach was collected from 05/17/04 through 05/21/04.

Shots of the water surface elevations were taken throughout the surveyed area. The post processing of the depth soundings produce elevations of the river bottom by subtracting the depths from the water surface elevations. Hypac software was used for post processing. Some sounding files required editing of several extraneous points, while other files showed a clearly defined stream bed and needed very little editing. - Process_Contact:
