Spirit of Oregon Plan Award Given to Pacific Northwest Reclamation Employee
A Bureau of Reclamation employee received the Spirit of Oregon Plan Leadership Award from Governor John Kitzhaber for his participation in local watershed grassroots activities in eastern Oregon.
Ron Golus, Reclamation planner, with the Snake River Area Office, was recognized for his work on stream restoration with the watershed councils on the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds. The award was presented at the Oregon Soil and Water Conservation Districts/Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board Convention on November 21, in Redmond, Oregon.
Golus was recommended for the award by the Malheur Watershed Council, Owyhee Watershed Council, Powder Watershed Council, and Grande Ronde Watershed Program. The award nomination for Golus was submitted by Karen Leiendecker, Eastern Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) representative.
I am very honored to have been presented with this award because it relates directly to how grassroots efforts can lead to improving stream environment, Golus said. There are plenty of people and groups working hard to restore streams to a healthy condition, and Im happy to be among them.
The award highlights Reclamations commitment to providing technical assistance to watershed councils in order to help them to address problems and needs and to offer guidance in water and related land resources.
The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.
