Open House Set to Discuss Lake Cascade Marina

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation will co-host an open house to discuss the proposed Lake Cascade Resource Management Plan and public concerns about the lack of adequate marina facilities on Lake Cascade.

The open house will be held May 9, at the Reclamation/IDPR office located at 970 Dam Road, Cascade, Idaho, from 5:00 -9:00 p.m.

The Lake Cascade Resource Management Plan was completed in February, 2002. In this plan the public identified the lack of a marina on Lake Cascade as a major drawback to their boating enjoyment. Reclamation and the Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation are looking for ways to solve this problem.

"The first thing needed is a breakwater to provide a safe harbor for boats," said Jim Budolfson, Reclamation’s Snake River Area Office resource manager. "Reclamation engineering staff are proposing three ideas for a breakwater which include creating a traditional earthen breakwater, sheet pile breakwater or a floating breakwater."

There will also be additional issues to be identified, such as the operation of the marina, fuel sales, and boat slip leases, Budolfson said.

Jim Budolfson and Rick Collignon, IDPR director, will be on hand to answer questions. For more information call the Cascade Dam Field Office at (208) 382-5474 or the Snake River Area Office in Boise at (208) 334-1460.
