Security Concerns Result in Restricted Parking at Cascade Dam

CASCADE, Idaho - The Bureau of Reclamation recently restricted parking on top of Cascade Dam and posted no parking signs on adjacent land due to increased concern about public safety and security of the facility. A formal security assessment is scheduled for the dam which will determine additional measures to be implemented that are necessary to protect the structure."

Vehicle traffic is still permitted to cross the top of Cascade Dam, however, vehicles are no longer permitted to stop or park on the road crossing the dam, according to Steve Jarsky, Snake River Area Operation &Maintenance/Technical Service manager.

"All federal facilities, including dams and buildings are required to have security measures in place that may limit public access," said Jarsky. "Our primary concern is public safety and the security of Cascade Dam. We really don’t have much choice in the matter."

Cascade Dam was built in 1948 and is located on the north fork of the Payette River near Cascade, Idaho.
