Reclamation Seeks Public Comment on Tyler Creek Wasteway

The Bureau of Reclamation will accept public comments until May 20 on the proposal to upgrade access and conduct bank stabilization and restoration activities to the Tyler Creek Wasteway, located in the South Fork of School House Creek in Jackson County, Oregon. This is an extension of the comment period by 2 weeks to due to public interest in commenting on this proposed action.

Reclamation’s proposal has two objectives:

  • The first is to construct an unpaved/ungraveled road on a newly acquired right-of-way which will allow access to the Wasteway by irrigators and Green Springs Powerplant operators. Construction of the road will include installation of three culverts and a crossing ford. To install one of the culverts and the crossing ford, Reclamation will be adding fill to wetland areas associated with School House Creek.
  • The second component of this project is to stabilize the banks of the Wasteway, which were damaged in 1993 during extended use of the Wasteway.
  • The Rogue River Basin Project-Talent Division storage system includes two high elevation reservoirs, Hyatt and Howard Prairie. Water from these reservoirs is diverted to Keene Creek Reservoir which serves Green Springs Powerplant. Water from the powerplant discharges into Emigrant Reservoir and is subsequently regulated for irrigation by the Talent Irrigation District.
