Workshop on Tyler Creek Wasteway Stabilization

The Bureau of Reclamation invites the public to participate in a workshop to obtain detailed information and provide additional National Environmental Policy Act public scoping for the Tyler Creek wasteway stabilization.

This workshop will be held in Ashland, Oregon, on Thursday, December 6, at Ashland Middle School, 100 Walker Avenue, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m.

The workshop will include a presentation about the proposed action and will be designed to specifically explore public interests, questions, input, and recommendations.

The purposes of the proposed action are to:

Stabilize streambanks within existing Reclamation right-of-way damaged by use of the wasteway
Provide access within existing Reclamation right-of-way to Tyler Creek wasteway
Provide future maintenance of the wasteway

Reclamation sent out a public scoping letter on the proposed action in spring 2001 in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Due to the scope and range of public comments, Reclamation enhanced its public outreach to include this public workshop.

Past use of the wasteway eroded portions of the wasteway banks. Reclamation needs to establish permanent access within its right-of-way to stabilize the banks and perform ongoing maintenance. These activities will minimize further channel degradation during periodic use of the wasteway.

The Tyler Creek wasteway is the only means of delivering irrigation water from Keene Creek Reservoir to Talent Irrigation District lands when Green Springs Powerplant is out of service for maintenance or repair during irrigation season. The wasteway has a design capacity of 60 cubic feet per second.

The meetings will take place in facilities meeting accessibility requirements outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Citizens with disabilities which may require special accommodations to participate in or to understand the meeting, should contact Connie Wensman, Regional Office Accessibility Coordinator at (208) 378-5317 at least one week in advance so arrangements can be made.
