Reclamation’s proposed Resource Management Plan for Prineville Reservoir will update one completed in 1992, to include changing conditions and demands on the reservoir and adjacent lands. The updated RMP will be Reclamation's blueprint for the future use, management, and development of the reservoir for the next 10 years.

The goals of these first meetings are to explain the RMP update process, obtain public input regarding the issues and to seek public input regarding participation in the Ad Hoc Work Group being formed as part of the project.

The reservoir and adjacent lands have become increasingly important recreation sites, with increasing demand and use largely attributed to growing populations in Central Oregon and the Willamette Valley.

Public comment is important in order to effectively address such issues as recreation use and natural resource protection, number and types of recreation facilities, resource management objectives, public health and safety issues, and management of off-road vehicle use.

Reclamation prepared a project Newsbrief, which presents more detailed information on the RMP update process. The Newsbrief also contains a mail-in response form to invite comment from the public.

A copy of the Newsbrief can be obtained at the public meetings or by contacting: Vicki Kellerman, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, 1150 North Curtis Road, Suite 100, Boise ID 83706-1234. Or phone (208) 378-5326 or fax (208) 378-5305. Information can also obtained by e-mail at vkellerman@pn.usbr.gov.
