Comments Sought on Prineville Resource Management Plan
The Bureau of Reclamation and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department are seeking public comment on draft alternatives for the future management of Prineville Reservoir and Prineville State Park, both considered prime central Oregon recreation attractions.
A public meeting will be held in Prineville on November 28, at the Crook County Fairgrounds in Cary Foster Hall, 590 SE Lynn Blvd., from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Reclamation’s 1992 Resource Management Plan for Prineville Reservoir is being updated to include changing conditions and demands on the reservoir and adjacent lands. A master plan for Prineville State Park is also being developed. These updated plans will guide future use, management, and development of the reservoir for the next 10 years.
The purpose of this meeting is to present information and take comments on draft goals, objectives, and alternatives for managing Prineville Reservoir. A working group representing various stakeholder agencies, tribes, and citizens has been helping to further define the issues and opportunities first identified from mail-in responses and public meetings in March of this year.
In addition to public meetings, Reclamation and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will continue to seek input through a website at www.pn.usbr.gov. Follow the menu to the Prineville RMP site.
The meetings will take place in facilities meeting accessibility requirements outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Citizens with disabilities which may require special accommodations to participate in or to understand the meeting, should contact Connie Wensman, Regional Office Accessibility Coordinator at (208) 378-5317 at least one week in advance so arrangements can be made.
Additional details regarding the RMP process, summaries, and the draft alternatives can be obtained through the Prineville RMP websites or by contacting: Vicki Kellerman, Bureau of Reclamation, 1150 North Curtis Road, Suite 100, Boise ID 83706-1234. Or phone: (208) 378-5326 or fax: (208) 378-5305. Information can also be obtained by e-mail to vkellerman@pn.usbr.gov.
