Reservoir Boat Ramp Status Announced
The summer of 2001 has presented many irrigation and recreation challenges to those agencies managing the resources in and around the Bureau of Reclamation reservoirs in central and western Oregon.
One of the most recognized needs is for adequate information for the boating public seeking the status of boat ramp access during this low water year. The drought conditions have had noticeable impacts on storage water in most drainage basins where the reservoirs are located.
Irrigation districts have been required to limit the amount of water available for irrigation in the Tualatin and Rogue River Projects. These water limitations also impact recreation activities that are dependent on launching boats.
In order to assist the public in determining which Reclamation reservoirs in central and western Oregon may present the maximum boating opportunity for the remainder of the summer season, Reclamation has compiled a general list of agencies and private vendors that can provide specific information on the boat ramps at the primary reservoirs.
"We would like to request that the boating public contact the local managing authority for up to date information before planning a trip to any of these facilities," said Larry Zakrajsek, Reclamation Water and Lands Specialist.
