Historic Boise Diversion Dam for Summer Tours
The Bureau of Reclamation’s Diversion Dam and Powerplant, historical symbols of the early development of the Boise Valley, will open to the general public for the 2001 summer season.
The tours will be available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays, from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. starting Saturday, May 26, through Monday, September 3.
The public is invited to visit Boise Diversion Dam and Powerplant to learn more about the early days of how electricity and water were supplied to the Boise Valley.
On-site staff will be available to assist visitors and to provide informational tours. Parking for the Diversion Dam is located directly across from the site.
The dam is about seven miles northeast of Boise, adjacent to Highway 21. The dam was built in 1908 and supplied the first hydroelectricity to the Boise Valley. It also supplied power to construction workers several miles upstream building Arrowrock Dam in 1915.
The dam still serves as a diversion for irrigation water into the New York Canal.
