AgriMet Outreach Tour

David Walsh, Public Affairs Specialist
07/17/2014

AgriMet Coordinator Jama Hamel and Clayton Kezerle.AgriMet Coordinator Jama Hamel and Clayton Kezerle, student intern, traveled to the USDA's Twillight Crop Tour in Twin Falls, Idaho, to share information about the AgriMet program. This bi-annual event highlights research efforts done by the University of Idaho and other partners such as the Bureau of Reclamation.

During the event, Hamel and  Kezerle, introduced visitors to the AgriMet program. Agrimet is a network of agriculturally-based weather stations located throughout the Pacific Northwest. AgriMet‘s weather stations collect and report weather data necessary for computing evapotranspiration (ET). When linked to an irrigation scheduler program via the web or mobile application, growers can access AgriMet data to better monitor crop water use, precipitation and soil conditions. They can reduce the amount of water used in irrigation and decide exactly when and how much to irrigate.

There are more than 90 agricultural weather stations located throughout the Pacific Northwest. AgriMet is funded through the Bureau of Reclamation's Water Conservation Field Services Program and by the Bonneville Power Administration along with contributions from a variety of sponsors outside of Reclamation.
