EUWP for Hurricane Relief Support

In September 2005, the Expeditionary Unit Water Purifier was deployed to Biloxi, Mississippi to provide potable water the Biloxi Regional Medical Center. Initially, (September 9 - 22) the EUWP operated on water directly from the Gulf of Mexico. While operating on Gulf water both the ultrafiltration pretreatment and reverse osmosis desalination units of the EUWP were operational 24 hours per day to produce 72,000 gpd. After Hurricane Rita, September 22, Biloxi's city water supply was operational again, however, it had not been certified. The EUWP was then used to treat the city water supply until the certification was obtained.
