TITLE: Role of NORTHCOM in Homeland Defense and in Civil Support

ABSTRACT:
The Department of Defense (DOD) created a new Combatant Command following the events of September 11, 2001, focused on homeland defense and civil support.
This presentation introduces the audience to US Northern Command, located at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and its role, mission and functions.
The DOD homeland defense and civil support missions support the Department of Homeland Security national effort to prevent terrorism and to provide support to civil authorities during consequence management of natural disasters and attacks on the homeland by terrorists.
