This group (86-68250) specializes in technical investigations, designs, reviews, and related work in flood hydrology, emergency management, and hydrometeorology. Representative services include:
- Extreme precipitation and extreme flood event studies up to the probable maximum flood
- Hydrologic input for risk assessments of dams
- Inflow design hydrographs and cross-drainage analyses
- Flood frequency and statistical hydrological analyses
- Dam breach and inundation mapping using 1D and 2D modeling techniques
- Dam failure consequence estimation
- Early warning system planning, design, installation, and maintenance
- Emergency Action Plan development and exercises
- Drought index development and application
- Hydrometeorology and hydrology research
- Various other activities associated with flood hydrology and emergency management
The group is heavily involved in the hydrological aspects of Reclamation's Dam Safety Program and provides services to other Department of the Interior agencies as well. Standards and criteria are developed and coordinated with other Federal agencies concerned with flood hydrology, hydrometeorology, and dam safety.
