Reclamation To Begin Construction Of Placer County Water Agency American River Pump Station Project

Reclamation has issued a Notice to Proceed to the contractor, Steve Manning Construction of Redding, California, for construction of Phase 1 of the American River Pump Station Project (Project). The Project's primary purpose is to restore year-round access to Placer County Water Agency's water rights, which were lost during the initial Auburn Dam construction activities in the early 1970s.

In September, the contractor will begin assembling construction equipment at the work site People who use the American River canyon for recreation should obey signs posted in the construction area for their own protection.

Nearby residents can expect sporadic increased truck traffic as the Project gets under way. Project neighbors can call 800-742-9474 and press "25" to get information or leave a voice message concerning the Project. All voice messages will be returned promptly.

The Project includes building the pump station, pipelines, roads, and reconstructing a channel in the dry portion of the American River. Reclamation awarded the contractor a $16,974,135 contract for construction of Phase 1 of the Project. Work is expected to be completed in 2005.
