Reclamation’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Cross Channel Gates to Remain Closed for Repairs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that both gates on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Cross Channel will remain closed for needed repairs to correct a mechanical problem that occurred on May 29, 2012. The gates are located in Walnut Grove, Calif.

When the gates were closed on Monday, June 4, 2012, they were expected to be reopened for recreational boaters by Saturday, June 16. Repairs have not yet been completed, however, and the gates are now anticipated to be operational by Saturday, June 23.

The public is asked to avoid the gate area during this time. Reclamation will provide information on the status of the repairs and gate operations as the information becomes available.

The Delta Cross Channel, a feature of Reclamation’s Central Valley Project Delta Division, is used to divert Sacramento River water into a branch of the Mokelumne River. The Delta Cross Channel gates are normally raised on weekends to allow for the passage of boats.
