The Bureau of Reclamation's Central California Area Office will celebrate Water Awareness Month with garden tours at its American River Water Education Center (ARWEC). ARWEC is located near Folsom Dam at 7785 Folsom-Auburn Road, Folsom, Calif.
ARWEC's landscaping includes a water-efficient garden. ARWEC's Master Gardener, Judy Carroll, will give two free, formal tours of the garden on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. All guests are asked to sign up for a tour when they arrive.
Ms. Carroll and other plant experts will be available to answer questions in the garden from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Learn about ARWEC's water-efficient landscape; river-friendly, drought-tolerant plants; and native species popular in the Sacramento area. In addition, Placer County Master Composters will conduct composting demonstrations throughout the morning.
ARWEC is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free group tours of the garden are offered during the week. For more information or to schedule a group tour, please call the ARWEC scheduling office at 916-989-7132 or visit www.usbr.gov/mp/arwec.
