On Wednesday, May 14, 2008, construction is scheduled to begin to improve security on Folsom Reservoir's dikes, Right Wing Dam, and Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam (MIAD). The Bureau of Reclamation's construction contractor, Delta Scientific Corporation of Palmdale, California, will begin installing security beam gates on the crest of the earthen dams. When completed, the beam gates will allow recreation access to the multi-use trail while providing improved security. Construction activities will be in the vicinity of MIAD and Dike 4 in May and will move to Dike 5, Dike 6, the Right Wing Dam, and Dike 7 in June. The recreation trail is managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
Public safety measures and some temporary trail detours and/or closures will be required during construction. These temporary safety measures may include flag persons, safety and detour signs, and safety fencing. It is important for the public to be aware of and obey the flag person's instructions and/or posted signs for their own safety.
Construction activities, including required detours and/or temporary closures, are expected to be completed by the end of June 2008, although progress may vary due to a number of unforeseen circumstances Detours and other safety measures will be halted as construction work is completed.
