Visitors will be allowed on top of the dam, as usual, but the dam's parking garage will also be closed. Parking will be available only on the Arizona side of the dam.
Hoover Dam is closed to visitation only two days of the year - Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
The dam will re-open to visitation on Friday, November 24, at its normal time of 9:00 a.m.; the parking garage will re-open at 8:00 a.m., and will close at 5:00 p.m., its normal hours. Visitation at the dam the day after Thanksgiving can be heavy, with the peak visitation typically occurring between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Traffic
Highway 93 across Hoover Dam will be open to traffic throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. But motorists should plan on heavy traffic, particularly on Wednesday, November 22, and Sunday, November 26.
"As on any long holiday weekend, traffic crossing the dam will be heavy," said Hoover Dam Police Chief Rich Melim.
Motorists planning to cross Hoover Dam during the Thanksgiving Day holiday period should expect slower-than-normal traffic and should have flexible schedules to allow for the extra time necessary to cross the dam from Wednesday through early Monday.
