Bureau of Reclamation officials decided to suspend visitor operations at the dam this weekend because of the uncertainty of when Highway 93, which crosses the dam, will be re-opened. The highway was closed late this afternoon when equipment being used to construct the new bridge downstream of the dam fell onto the roadway.
The visitor center will re-open, and tours of the facility will resume, on Monday, September 18.
The visitor center opens at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time, and closes at 6:00 p.m. Pacific time. Tours of the dam's power plant begin about 9:20 a.m. and run approximately every 15 minutes thereafter until 5:15 p.m.
Water and power operations at the dam are not affected by the closing of the visitor facilities; those activities will continue as normal.
