CRIT Irrigation System Design - FY02
The Colorado River Indian Tribes will install stand-alone, electronic and mechanical automated devices on selected canal gates as a demonstration and trial for future work. These funds will help CRIT focus on improving existing irrigation water works.
CRIT Ditchrider Irrigation Video - FY 03
The Colorado River Indina Tribes request assistance with the production of a training video to educate their ditchriders on proper application of water to fields. Funds were set aside for the LC Region videorgrapher to complete this production and the Yuma Area Office public affairs and outreach program the script. This video will be used in the Tribes on-going ditchrider training program.
Torres Martinez Water Conservation Study - FY03
Reclamation is working cooperatively with the Torres-Martinez Indian Tribe to improve irrigation water management and control soil erosion. This will be accomplished through the installation of erosion control structures and the installation of an efficient irrigation system for their planned Native Plants Preservation area. The results will be conservation and preservation of soil, water, and cultural resources for the Tribe. Reclamation will provide technical assistance for the erosion control and irrigation system installations, including design, specifications, and construction supervision.
Chemehuevi Water Measurement Conservation - FY03
Reclamation is working cooperatively with the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe to improve irrigation water management and improve their agricultural irrigation system to enhance water conservation and quality. This will result in a more efficient irrigation system with less return flows to Lake Havasu. Reclamation will provide technical assistance for the irrigation system improvements including design, specifications, and construction supervision. Reclamation will also provide irrigation system evaluations, assistance with an irrigation water management plan, and technical assistance with implementing the plan. The Chemehuevi Tribe will install improvements to their irrigation system to improve irrigation efficiency and reduce return flows, such as improved filtration, fuel spill protection, improved intake equipment, and modifications to the irrigation system itself. The Chemehuevi Tribe will then implement an irrigation water management plan for improved irrigation efficiency.
Fort Mojave Water Measurement Study - FY03
Reclamation is working cooperatively with the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe on an irrigation improvement demonstration project to install selected irrigation system improvements for water conservation in California. The improvements will be evaluated in terms of water-saving ability and cost-effectiveness. Reclamation will work cooperatively with the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe to develop plans and specifications for irrigation improvements and irrigation water management, provide engineering and design assistance for construction of improvements, and collect and provide before-and-after data to evaluate the water savings and cost-effectiveness of irrigation system and management improvements. A final report will be prepared to help the Tribe develop its own water conservation plans.
Quechan Irrigation System Evaluation - FY03
Reclamation is working in cooperation with the Quechan Indian Tribe to provide a training plan, on-the-job training, design and construction technical assistance, and assistance to install water measurement and instrumentation devices. Additionally, the Quechan Indian Tribe has provided an employee to be trained in water measurement and monitoring.
