NAGPRA Inventories

NAGPRA Inventories are item-by-item descriptions of human remains and associated funerary objects. Unlike the summaries, inventories were to be completed in consultation with Indian tribes and represent a decision by Reclamation as to the cultural affiliation of particular human remains or associated funerary objects. All five regions within Reclamation completed their inventories by November 16, 1995, and provided them to the culturally affiliated Indian tribes and to the National NAGPRA Program by May 16, 1996. New information or the discovery of previously unknown archaeological collections has necessitated amendments to all inventories.

Following the publication of notices of inventory completion Reclamation has seen to the repatriation or disposition of 703 individuals and 3,449 associated funerary objects. Reclamation continues to possess 1,050 individuals (237 individuals are assigned a cultural affiliation) and 28,851 associated funerary objects (27,849 objects are assigned a cultural affiliation).
