Salt Wells Geothermal Energy Projects EIS

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District-received proposals from Ormat Technologies, Inc. and Vulcan Power Company to develop geothermal power plants and facilities on private property and on BLM and Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) land in Nevada. Sierra Power Company has proposed above-ground electrical transmission lines, electrical substations, and switching facilities related to the geothermal proposals. BLM has been preparing an environmental impact statement for the project. Reclamation is a cooperating agency.

BLM issued the draft EIS on January 28, 2011. Comments were due on March 28, 2011. Final EIS was issued July 22, 2011. Reclamation signed its own Record of Decision on December 14, 2011.
