2010 Public Lands Day Event
Public Lands Day at Shasta Dam partnering with U.S. Forest Service was a huge success!
Reclamation’s Northern California Area Office (NCAO) once again partnered with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to clean up Fishermen’s Point Day Use Area at Shasta Lake and the Shasta Dam public use area, on Saturday, October 2, 2010, to celebrate National Public Lands Day.
The morning started with a welcome from Brian Person, Area Manager for the Northern California Area Office and a safety talk. Work assignments and the proper tools were distributed to the volunteers to get the morning started.
The work included weeding and removing brush at Fishermen’s Point on USFS land, removing litter along Lake Shasta shore from Shasta Dam to Centimudi Boat Ramp, collecting litter from the west shoreline of Shasta Lake at the dam and weeding and cleaning the Shasta Dam parking area.
In all about 50 volunteers from the Boy and Girl Scouts along with their families, Reclamation employees and Forest Service employees made the day a success.
About 30 bags of weeds, trash, and enough brush trimmings to fill a large pickup truck were collected. All participants received a t-shirt, a certificate of appreciation, and enjoyed a BBQ lunch as a way to say thank you for the hard work accomplished.
