Sacramento River Settlement Contractors Contract Renewal Effort
Reclamation is initiating negotiations for the renewal of approximately 145 existing Sacramento River Settlement Contracts. There are two forms of Settlement Contracts: approximately 56 Standard Form Contracts (17 districts and 39 individuals) and 89 Short Form Contracts. The basic difference between the two forms of contract are the number of acres covered by the contract. All of these contracts expire on March 31, 2004. The existing Settlement Contracts were originally executed in 1964 with a term not to exceed 40 years. The total amount of water under both Standard Form and Short Form settlement contracts is approximately 2.2 million acre-feet and cover a total of almost 440,000 acres of land bordering the Sacramento River and its tributaries between Redding and Sacramento.
