Shasta Lake Cast Event June 16
This year’s C.A.S.T. For Kids event held on beautiful Shasta Lake was a huge success. For the 13th year, fishermen teamed up with disabled and disadvantaged kids for a morning of fishing. Five local bass clubs, along with state and federal agencies and local businesses, joined together to support this event for 42 special needs kids who participated in the fun outdoor activity. The hope of this event is to foster a lifelong love and appreciation for our public lands through the sport of fishing.
The C.A.S.T. For Kids program supports President Obama's America's Great Outdoors and the Department of the Interior's Let's Move Outside (LMO) initiatives. These initiatives raise awareness of, and build partnerships that support, the health benefits of outdoor recreation and finding new ways to inspire young people to get moving outside. LMO seeks to connect children to nature through healthy outdoor recreation focusing on four key principles: health, family fun, and stewardship.
Once again, the community stepped up to the plate with all the donations needed to make this memorable day happen. A healthy breakfast started the day off right. As the boats came off the water, you could feel the excitement in the air as the kids showed off their big fish. More importantly…every face had a huge smile on it. The worries and demands of everyday life were miles away. A barbeque lunch was waiting for all the hungry participants. While everyone enjoyed lunch, a plaques ceremony was held to recognize the accomplishments of the day and to thank everyone for volunteering.
