Lake Berryessa: |
The 2011 Lake Berryessa Catch A Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.) for Kids Fishing Event, held on October 15, was a great success! This year, 35 children with disabilities or disadvantages from Napa, Solano and other nearby Counties attended. In response to the “Let’s Move Outside” and the “America Great Outdoors” campaigns, health and safety was emphasized.
CAL Fire and Napa County Sheriff’s Department were among other partners and sponsors attending the event. Children were instructed of water safety principals by Sheriffs deputies. Other partners and bass clubs donated equipment, tackle and prizes for all the kids.
Each child had an opportunity to go fishing out on a boat, and for many, this was the first time for both fishing and boating. Nineteen boat operators, and 27 others volunteered their time and resources to provide this experience to the children. Many fish were caught and great memories were made. Several new volunteer boat captains were moved by the experience to give back to the community.
The Lake Berryessa 2011 C.A.S.T. event succeeded in educating children on the enjoyment of getting outside, recreating with families, stewardship of the land and water, safety, eating right and healthy living habits.
