American River Water Education Center 2009 Get W.E.T. Event...
The American River Water Education Center at Folsom Dam hosted it’s 8th Annual Get W.E.T. (Water Education Today) Event along with their 10 Year Anniversary Celebration and dedication of the new Water Well & Bell.
Although a hot day, exhibitors, participants, vendors, Bureau of Reclamation staff and volunteers came together to share with visitors the importance of water conservation.
Visitors went from booth to booth learning about water conservation while participating in the “Passport Activity” which included big prizes like wave boards, park passes, compost bins, water fun toys & more, for those who participated.
Star Eco Station and Radio Disney entertained in the amphitheater while Folsom’s Team lead plant mechanic Pat Pipis and supply clerk Dan Aslin, along with other band members of 2nd Time Around entertained the crowd.
Air conditioned events in the center and schoolhouse were appreciated while enjoying the talents of our very own Water Wizard (Daniel Wilson) or making a water cycle bracelet. Exhibitors including the Army Corps of Engineers, D.A.R.T. (Drowning Accident Rescue Team), and the award winning Gatorobytes and R’Scrmn Engineers had something to share regarding water and conservation.
The dedication of the new Water Well & Bell was included in the opening remarks and ceremony by Area Manager, Mike Finnegan. Mike awarded Eagle Scout Nate Bailey for his work in building the well and honoring him with a plaque. The Club Rescue group from Bella Vista High School completed and demonstrated the conversion of an electric water fountain to a solar power fountain. Thanks goes out not only to our own volunteers but to Bureau staff and maintenance that helped out to make the 8th Annual Get W.E.T. a great success!
