Three 2011 Labor Day Weekend Activities Held at New Melones Lake
Saturday, September 3:
- The Calaveras Community Band entertained visitors at the Amphitheatre in the Glory Hole Recreation Area with traditional big band favorites. Children joined the celebration, creating instruments from rocks and sticks. The music could be heard across the campground.

Sunday, September 4:
- Hikers on the Natural Bridges trail learned about the geologic processes that make limestone caves, the cultural history of the area, and the plants and animals in the region.

- Visitors to the Glory Hole Recreation Area Amphitheatre learned about the geologic formations that make New Melones Lake unique in California. The discussion included the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, Table Mountain, Natural Bridges and gold. Children and adults were taught how to pan for gold.
