In partnership with the American River Parkway Foundation, and the Dept of Fish and Game, the American River Water Education Center from the CCAO, celebrated and practiced stewardship at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
The Great American River Clean Up is held annually, welcoming over 2,000 volunteers, working at 26 sites along the river and American River Bike Trail who remove trash and debris preventing pollutants from entering the watershed, harming the wildlife, or creating hazards for recreational users.
Additionally, keeping the Parkway clean protects ocean life by preventing trash from being washed downstream during the winter rains. Over 15,000 lbs of trash and recyclible materials were collected in a 4 hour period this year. If you are interested in learning more about GARCU, visit their website.
