Current Status of 2-Gates:
(As of May 2012)
- A 3-dimensional suspended sediment model for the Bay-Delta is in development and field data collection for model calibration and validation is underway.
- The network of near real-time continuous tidal flow and turbidity monitoring stations has been expanded to include key locations within the Delta and to quantify all major sediment inputs to the Delta.
- The first high winter flow sampling campaign to gather data to calibrate a smelt-turbidity behavioral model was completed in January 2011. A draft report presenting the results of this effort is in review and scheduled for release in April 2012.
- No ‘first flush’ sampling was conducted during the winter of 2011-2012, but USGS has completed a study plan and is seeking ESA take permits for salmon and smelt in preparation for next winter.
