Q. What is the difference between a drainage and an observation well?
A. A drainage well is used to pump water from the well into some sort of canal or drain. This is done to remove excessive groundwater in the immediate vicinity of the well. An observation well is used solely to monitor the level of the groundwater, and can't pump out any of the water.
