About Us

Reclamation's mission is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.

The Phoenix Area Office accomplishes this mission by its involvement in issues pertaining to central Arizona's contemporary water management; by protecting the public's safety and its investment in the structures Reclamation built through oversight of the operating entities; and by continuing to assist state, local and tribal governments develop and protect water resources.

The Phoenix Area Office is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Salt River Project and the Central Arizona Project, two major projects constructed in Arizona during the 20th century, and maintains an oversight role with the recreational managers of the resulting reservoirs and canal-side recreational facilities on land owned by Reclamation.

The Phoenix Area Office places great emphasis on fulfilling Reclamation's water delivery obligations, encouraging water conservation, recycling and reuse, and partnerships. Such partnerships are the way to bring together a variety of interests in order to address the continuing competition for central Arizona's limited water resources.
