Safety Evaluation of Existing Dams International Technical Seminar and Study Tour, August 20-27, 2012
The Bureau of Reclamation International Affairs Office is hosting the annual Safety Evaluation of Existing Dams International Technical Seminar and Study Tour on August 20-27, 2012. There are 17 participants from 9 countries attending this year’s seminar. The first week of the seminar took place Denver, Colorado. Participants attended classroom presentations, discussions, and a tour of Reclamation Research Laboratories at the Denver Federal Center.
The study tour begins on Friday August 24, 2012, with site visits and simulated exams at Green Mountain Dam and Granby Dam. The study tour will conclude in Nevada with a special tour of Hoover Dam.
The seminar is designed for managers, administrators, engineers, and geologists responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and safety of dams.
The International Affairs Program routinely assists water resources agencies of other countries by providing reimbursable technical training and technical visitors programs for their staff. Training programs are tailored to fit each request and vary in length from two days to as long as one year, usually combining office assignments and field visits or study tours to Reclamation’s Denver, regional, and area offices. All cost involved with providing training are fully reimbursed to Reclamation.
