On November 7, 2013, Reclamation became the final bureau of the Department of the Interior to deploy the Financial Business and Management System (FBMS). FBMS is the administrative backbone for mission support at the Department. With the launch, FBMS is fully deployed across the Department, supporting 1,660 Reclamation users and more than 15,000 Department users in a single system. FBMS modernizes our financial, acquisition, property management, and financial assistance business management processes, and will enable us to increase efficiencies.
Our work is not complete with the Go-Live phase. As with all new systems, the transition to FBMS will be a challenge. Training and the catching up of financial transactions will be ongoing until January 2014 Start-up/Catch-up activities will run from November 7 to December 4, 2013, to record Reclamation’s October and November transactions and close these accounting periods. Additional users will be provided access to FBMS in January 2014. Once fully functional, FBMS will give us access to more reliable, timely, and ultimately better, financial data.
