| Just a comment about a recruitment and retention problem I have noticed in Reclamation. There have been several articles on the FEND and in the Denver News about certain government agencies' ability to offer student loan repayment as a recruitment or retention incentive. Several friends and family members have asked me about this program after I have discussed the pros for working for the government. Several times I have tried to contact Human Resources to see what Reclamation's policy is on this, but either no policy has been adopted, or the policy is not being made known. The answer I have recieved in the past is something to the order of "Reclamation has not adopted a policy for this yet". Additionally, job applicants are not being made aware that this program even exists. I have been asked when attending job fairs as a TSC representative in the past if we offer this incentive, and I have never been told how to respond. I believe that the TSC should include provisions for this program (albeit only for highly qualified applicants) as a way to recruit and retain the highly skilled workforce needed to continue our mission. |
