| The following comments are made on Managing for Excellence - Action Item 35-Summary and Recommendations Draft Report. 1) Under the Background section shown on page 1 of the report, four primary focus areas are listed; I recommend that a fifth area be added, namely "Advancing Power Supply Technologies and Project Use Energy Efficiency Solutions." 2) Under Responsibilities on page 2, when referencing the list of recommendations to achieve improvements, the report could be edited as followings to add a bit of flavor (changes are shown in quotes): - Improve both regional and Reclamation-wide awareness of the science and technology knowledge gaps that challenge Reclamation's mission. - "Expand the" tracking of technology emerging from public and private efforts external to Reclamation. - "Advance the" integration across Reclamation in the conduct of R&D and deployment of successful results as solutions, best practices, and new knowledge. - "Increase" outreach and collaboration with project beneficiaries and other stakeholders. - Improve R&D partnership building with national, regional, and local federal and non-federal research and water/hydropower managers. - "Encourage additional" link(s) to universities that offer unique opportunities to leverage scientific expertise and build relationships with students as recruitment opportunities. 3) Under Frequency of Meetings under Responsibilities on page 2, I recommend a meeting of the S&T Team (or alternately hold a conference call) every six months, since technological advances are happening at a quickened pace. Meeting only once a year on new or emerging Science and Technology issues, could result in a lack of needed momentum on adopting or applying new S&T methodologies. 4) Under the Communication of Meeting's Outcome section of the report, on page 2, it would be helpful to share a narrative summary of the discussions held by the S&T Team with interested stakeholders. |
