We have provided many different kinds of maps for you to use when selecting a project, dam or powerplant. One type is what we call the flat map. This is what you´ll see if you choose anything except the "interactive map server", or IMS. The IMS allows you to be more selective for what you want the map to show. It is however a bit slower due to the fact that it needs to draw a custom map for each user and set of conditions specified. Due to this we recommend that the IMS only be used by those with a fast connection - something faster than a modem, and a javascript capable browser. It can be used with a modem, but be aware of the large amount of data needed to be transmitted over a phone line. |

The clickable maps displayed in DataWeb were created using ArcIMS software at Environmental Systems Research Institute, Redlands, CA, www.esri.com. Rivers, state lines, highways and other base map features were downloaded from the US Geological Survey map layers web site, www.usgs.gov. USGS 1 km digital elevation map data were used with ERDAS, Atlanta, GA, www.erdas.com image processing software to create the shaded relief map. Map projection is Lambert Conformal Conic. Points may not be in their exact locations, especially in the case of projects which may cover large and irregularly shaped areas which may cross administrative or hydrologic boundaries. ArcIMS maps are interactively displayed in a web browser window using ESRI´s Internet Map Server (IMS) software. This allows the user to display selected map layers, zoom, pan, and get information about features almost as if s/he were in an actual Arc session. Clicking on a feature point accesses the hotlink stored in ArcIMS for that feature (as long as the layer is active). The hotlinks contain a URL (web site address) for that feature. IMS is configured to then display a separate browser window for that feature. |
