Geology

Davis Creek Dam is located in the loessial hills of central Nebraska within the Great Plains phsiographic province.  Bedrock at the damsite is the Ogallala Formation, which is an old alluvial fan that extends from the Rocky Mountains.    Overlying the Ogallala Formation are fluvial sands that represent stream deposits of one or more interglacial time periods.  Overlying these deposits are the Loveland Transition which represents the gradual changes from a fluvial to eolian Loveland and Peorian Loesses, respectively.  These geologic units mantel the reservoir area above the drainage floor area.  Within the drainage floor area are the Valley Fill and Upland Valley Alluvium, which consist of reworked loess.
